A sodium-calcium chloride spring — salty and strongly heat-retaining. It is a blend of seven wells gathered in a holding tank, fed by an exceptionally hot source at 89.5 °C, among the hottest natural waters in Japan. Richly mineralized at 16.33 g/kg of dissolved solids, it leaves a mineral film on the skin, while a mildly alkaline pH keeps the feel soft.

About

Minato-yu is a small public bathhouse run by the local district, a few minutes from Yumigahama (弓ヶ浜) beach. Each side, men's and women's, has a single tub, big enough for a dozen or so bathers, filled with hot, distinctly salty water piped in from Shimokamo Onsen (下賀茂温泉). Three washing stations come stocked with soap and shampoo, which isn't a given at a bathhouse this size. The building is old wood construction with a high beamed ceiling and skylights that fill the bathroom with natural light, and carved reliefs decorate the walls on both sides. It opened in 1992 and has passed between the neighborhood and the town a few times since; today it's where locals soak year round and beachgoers rinse off after a day at Yumigahama.

244. Minato-yu, Minamiizu An older public onsen in the countryside for 600, listed hours 14:00–20:00. Almost no English spoken. They stamp the 60 Onsen of Shizuoka 24/25 booklet. Inside there are cool bas-reliefs in the waiting area. There's also a dramatic bas-relief above the bath itself. Looks a bit odd for a place like this, but it definitely creates a unique character. Online photo of the bath matches. Indoor bath with clear water, temperature 42.5. Air is fine. If you somehow find yourself nearby, worth stopping by for fun. Definitely not worth a special trip though.
