A sodium-led bicarbonate spring — the classic juso-sen (soda-water) style, soft on the skin. At pH 8.5 it is alkaline, giving the slippery feel of Japan's beauty-water family. The source emerges as a cold-mineral spring at 21 °C and is heated for bathing.

267. Kaikan, Sessokyo Onsen We went for a day trip bath for ¥500 (listed as 10:00 to 20:00, except Thu). They stamp the 60+6 onsen of Shizuoka 24/25. It used to be included in the Yuragi tegata, but that was discontinued, and the stamp was not kept either. The place has a very strong remote, out-in-the-sticks feel. We entered the onsen in daylight, and came out when darkness and mist were settling in from the mountains, very atmospheric. Inside there is an indoor bath with clear water, temperature 40. It is a bit stuffy inside, but you can open a window. If you have already made it this far, it is worth stopping by the onsen. 11.11.2024
