Sanyoan is an 11-room annex of the Daiichi Hotel in Tokachigawa Onsen, Hokkaido, and every room has its own bath fed by the same reddish moor spring water, piped straight in and never reused. The shared bath, Fugetsu (風月), is a small hinoki-lined room with an open-air corner, and one type of room even pairs an indoor bath with its own outdoor one. The water itself is thick and smooth on the skin, warming you through rather than just wetting you. With only eleven rooms, the inn leans into quiet: kaiseki built around Tokachi's local produce, a small library, a bar. It reads as the deliberately slower, more private counterpart to the bigger sister hotel next door.
