Gekkoju Yufuin is an all-villa retreat a short way from Yufuin station, built around five differently styled suites rather than a shared bathhouse. There's no large communal bath here: each villa has its own tub, cypress in some, stone and semi-open-air in others, fed straight from the source so the water stays fresh rather than recirculated. One villa (Kohaku) pairs an indoor hinoki bath with a semi-open-air stone one you can step out to for fresh air; another (Futaai) has its own sauna and, on a clear day, a view toward Mount Yufu. Terraces off the bathrooms look out over a small stream or the surrounding hills. The stay leans toward close, personal service, styled by the ryokan as a dedicated butler role rather than standard front-desk hospitality.
