Izumiya has been a family-run inn at Shimoda Onsen (天草下田温泉) in Amakusa since 1884. The ryokan has its own spring source, kept kakenagashi (not heated, not diluted, not recirculated). The water is soft and clear with a faint sulfur scent. Both the men's and women's sides have an indoor bath and an open-air bath. All seven Japanese-style rooms look out over the Shimotsumine River.
