A hot (54.9 °C) simple sulfur spring delivered at a generous 210 L/min. The water carries the distinctive rotten-egg note of H2S but bathes gently — weakly alkaline pH gives the slippery beauty-water feel rather than a harsh sting. Served free-flow, with seasonal dilution (about 20% summer, 10% winter) to tame the source temperature.

379. Kikuya Hotel, Minamata, Kumamoto Visited for higaeri for 300 yen — an old-school place in an old-school village. There's a private bath for 1000 yen (didn't take it). Higaeri listed as 09:00 to 20:00. They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book. Payment into a box, stamp it yourself. Semi-open onsen with clear water, temperature around 43. The location is really inconvenient, but the place is cool.
