A hot (54.9 °C) simple sulfur spring delivered at a generous 210 L/min. The water carries the distinctive rotten-egg note of H2S but bathes gently — weakly alkaline pH gives the slippery beauty-water feel rather than a harsh sting. Served free-flow, with seasonal dilution (about 20% summer, 10% winter) to tame the source temperature.

379. Kikuya Hotel, Minamata, Kumamoto ★★ I went for a day visit for ¥300, an old-school place in an old-school village. There is a private bath for ¥1,000, I did not use it. Day visits are listed from 09:00 to 20:00. They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen stamp rally. Payment goes into a box, and you stamp it yourself. Semi-open-air onsen with clear water, temperature 43. It is really inconvenient to get to, but the place is great. 10.01.2025
