About

A ryokan in Sakunami Onsen, under an hour from Sendai, with more than 60 years behind it. The shared indoor baths include one lined with domestic marble quarried in Iwate. The fourth-floor observatory bath and rotenburo look out over forested mountains and, at night, open sky. Two private outdoor baths are available on a first-come basis, both fed directly from the spring (kakenagashi): Homing-no-yu (鳳鳴の湯) is free and Aun-no-yu (阿吽の湯) is paid per session. The water is clear and gentle, long known locally as the beauty spring.
