A weakly alkaline simple thermal spring (pH 8.06, source 49.8 C) — gentle in composition, soft on the skin, yet not boring: the water carries a very faint yellow tint and a whiff of hydrogen sulfide that gives it more character than most simple springs. Lifted at 500 L/min from a drilled, powered well. Listed indications cover the usual simple-spring range — neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, frozen shoulder, post-illness recovery, fatigue relief.

Ikkyu runs two full bathhouses, Ki-no-yu (木の湯) and Ishi-no-yu (石の湯), that swap between the men's and women's sides on alternating days, so every bath type is open to everyone eventually. All the tubs run on natural onsen water: a sit-down bath, an electric bath, a fine-bubble carbonated bath, jet baths, and a charcoal-filtered cold plunge indoors, then a jar bath, a medicinal bath, a waterfall bath, an open-air rock bath, a hot bath and a salt steam sauna outside. It's a big, well-worn day-use bathhouse in Konohana Ward's harbor district rather than a resort, with a Japanese-Western-Chinese restaurant, a barber, a relaxation salon, tatami rest areas on two floors, and free parking for about 150 cars. Families and regulars fill the place, some stopping by after a day at nearby Universal Studios Japan.

311. Kamigata Hot Spring Ikkyu, Osaka ★★ A super sento with hot spring water in the USJ area, 35 to 50 minutes from Osaka Station, for ¥850. Hours are listed as 10:00 to 24:00 (except Tue). They stamp the Kansai 24/25 Super Sento 41 stamp rally. There is a diner, massage, a hair salon, and a chill-out area. There are two different bath sets that alternate between men and women, Kino-yu and Ishi-no-yu. I visited the second one, so this review is about that. The bath photos online match only partly, the water in the evening was less brown in color and more greenish. Ishi-no-yu bath set: 1. Outdoor area. 1.1. First main bath. The water is clear, with a brownish-green tint in the evening. Temperature 40 to 41. 1.2. Second main bath. The water is clear, with a brownish-green tint in the evening. Temperature 41 to 42. 1.3. Two barrels, with water like the main baths. Temperature 42. 1.4. Two crater-like barrels with bubbles, clear water with a greenish tint, temperature 42. 1.5. A large red spherical steam bath, like in anime. 2. Indoor area. 2.1. Main bath, clear water with a greenish tint, temperature 41. 2.2. Carbonated bath, clear water with a greenish tint, temperature 39. 2.3. Sauna. 2.4. Cold bath. 2.5. Four electric baths. A good place, crater-like barrels, an unusual steam bath facade, interesting water. The baths also alternate between men and women, it is relatively close, and you can combine it with USJ.
