Ryokan Shirataki sits in Sujiu Onsen (筋湯温泉) in the Kokonoe highlands of Oita. The gender-separated rotenburo hang above the Kusu River, with a wall of trees along the bank below. The water is a lightly salty salt spring, flowing fresh without recirculation (kakenagashi). Inside there are also four free private baths (kashikiri), each styled differently, and a rock bath. Some rooms come with their own semi-outdoor bath. The kitchen puts out kaiseki meals built around local Bungo beef, river fish, and mountain vegetables from the Kokonoe area.
