463. Tsurunoyu, Beppu Wild onsen, inconvenient to reach without a car. On the approach there are signs about crime. The path to the onsen goes through a cemetery. Very popular with locals, tourists can also be encountered, but nobody bothers anyone in practice. Has a roof and a women's changing room. Bath photos from the internet, accurate. To the left of the onsen area entrance there's a trail up a hill. During the Beppu mountain burning festival event in April, it's an excellent viewing spot where we were the only ones there — and afterward you can go down straight into the onsen to warm up. The onsen is a sequence of baths and zones: 1. First bath, where water from the source enters. Clear water with fine white mineral deposits, minimal mud. Sulfur smell. Temperature 45.5. 2. Bridge-wall with openings. 3. Second bath. Clear water with fine white mineral deposits, minimal mud. Sulfur smell. Temperature 44.5. 4. Water outflow zone, also the washing area before entering the onsen. Super cool wild onsen. Not the most convenient to reach, but it's actually quite close to the city. 01.04.2025 04.04.2025
