Kumihama Onsen Yumotokan is a hot spring ryokan built around a good-sized day-use bath house. The large outdoor bath sits among rocks and trees below a small rock-fed waterfall; it runs hotter in summer and cooler in winter since it's open to the air. The indoor bath draws from a separate spring and stays hot year round, and there's a seasonal herbal bath kept on the milder side, with herbs like mugwort or lemongrass changing by the day. The water itself is salty and kept flowing fresh from the source. Men's and women's sides of the big outdoor bath swap daily. The restaurant takes reservations for both overnight stays and day-trip lunch.
