A traditional ryokan at Tsunagi Onsen (つなぎ温泉) in the Morioka hills, where the spring has been in use since the Heian period. The indoor bath looks out over a courtyard garden; the outdoor rotenburo faces the mountain. Select rooms come with a private open-air bath of their own. The sulfur spring water is alkaline and leaves skin noticeably smooth.
