A sodium-led alkaline simple thermal spring. At pH 9.6 it is strongly alkaline, giving the pronounced slippery feel of Japan's beauty-water family. A hot source at 43.4 °C, it carries 59.3 mg/kg of metasilicic acid that leaves skin noticeably smoother, and enough radon to fall within the hormesis tradition.

389. Hirayama Onsen Motoyu, Hirayama Onsen, Kumamoto Old-school onsen for 400. Operating hours stated as 06:00 to 21:30. They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book. You need to bring your own gel/shampoo or buy them there. Bath photos from the internet match reality. Inside there are two baths with clear water, a proper faint sulfurous onsen smell. Temperature in the large bath is 41-42, in the small one 43-44. Breathing inside is fine. Outside there's a stone rotenburo with clear water, temperature around 40. There's a small tub with cold water.
