The open-air baths face Kashima Nada (鹿島灘), the stretch of Pacific coast in front of Ibaraki, so on a clear day you soak with the ocean filling the view. The water is dark, almost black, and strongly salty; it warms you through and the heat tends to linger well after you get out. Indoor baths, a sauna, and a cold bath round out the bathing area. The whole complex (Toppu Sante Taiyo, とっぷ・さんて大洋) is run by a city health foundation and also has a heated pool, gym, and restaurant, drawing a steady crowd of regulars.
