Known good for
  • Smooth skindry, rough skin
  • Recoveryfatigue, stress

An alkaline simple thermal spring (pH 9.03) led by bicarbonate. The mineralization is light at 346 mg/kg, but the alkalinity gives the slippery, soft-on-skin feel of Japan's beauty-water family. A fair 78.9 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves a thin silica film that makes skin feel smoother afterwards.

About

This is a day-use onsen within the Tokinosumika resort in Gotemba, with an indoor bath and an outdoor rotenburo that looks straight at Mt. Fuji, plus a separate open-air bath, Tenku no Yu (天空の湯), up a short stairway. There's a Finnish-style sauna and a mist sauna too, plus a cold bath, though the sauna area is mixed-gender and swimsuits are required for a small extra fee. The water is carbonated and feels smooth on the skin, more of a slow, deep warmth than a quick heat. The building itself is a merchant house of roughly two centuries, Kyu Oi-ke (旧大井家), brought here from the Echizen region; inside, the timber framing is left exposed, with no ceiling over the beams. No one under 18 is admitted, and the whole place runs quiet and unhurried: a rest lounge with free massage chairs, and a restaurant serving seasonal food for people planning to stay the whole day.

196. Gotemba Kogen Gensen Chame-Yudono, Gotemba Super sento. A restaurant is nearby. Admission was 2000, they give a large towel, and inside the onsen there are unlimited small towels and yukata. Chill zones and massage available. Fuji wasn't visible on my day, but based on Google photos and the website, the mountain should be clearly visible. The last four bath photos are from the internet — the baths match, can't verify the mountain view, but I think it'll roughly look like that. 1. Upper scenic bath is separate and you have to walk up a short passage to it, available until 19:00. The bath itself is wooden, clear water, hot temperature. Should have a good Fuji view here, there are chairs. 2. Indoor area (downstairs). 2.1. Square bath. Clear water, hot temperature. 2.2. Herbal barrel with reddish water, warm temperature. 3. Outdoor area (downstairs). 3.1. Main outdoor stone bath with canopy. Clear water, temperature between warm and hot. In the Google photo there's a sign, but during my visit there was a TV. 3.2. Two rectangular single-person wooden baths. Clear water, temperature between warm and hot. 3.3. Two more rectangular single-person wooden baths with cold water. 3.4. Two saunas. Good place with Fuji views. Worth visiting on a Gotemba trip + makes sense to also go to the neighboring super sento Kirakubou just a few minutes away. I believe they have the same owners.
