A ryokan in Koshu, Yamanashi, that has been taking guests since around 1891. The bathing centers on a large open-air bath set among boulders and a cave bath (dokutsu-buro, 洞窟風呂) that predecessors hand-carved from the rock. Many rooms come with private outdoor baths. The water is smooth and soft on the skin. Men's and women's sections swap daily, so overnight guests get to soak in both. Dining follows a cha-kaiseki (茶懐石) style, with seasonal local ingredients.
