About

An open-air bath perched above the shore of Oshima Island, where you soak in swimwear with the ocean spread out in front of you, on a clear day you can see Mount Fuji across the water and the Izu Peninsula lit up at sunset. The spring emerged after the 1986 eruption of Mount Mihara, which gives this small public bath an unexpectedly dramatic origin story.

Motomachi Hama no Yu. Mixed onsen with swimwear, 300 yen. Large pool, felt like 40-41 degrees. View of the sea, mountains, and Fuji. Mostly local old men and one old lady. Good like everything on Oshima, but out of the three, the upper one is my favorite, especially when it's hot.
