Takayu Onsen Adachiya Ryokan

Adachiya sits at Takayu Onsen in the mountains above Fukushima city, known for its large open-air bath called Taiki no Yu (大気の湯). The water is an acidic sulfur type, the kind that turns milky and smells distinctly of sulfur, and is served kakenagashi in a bath that the ryokan bills as the prefecture's finest outdoor flow bath. After a 2024-25 renovation, the mixed bathing has shifted to a gender-rotation system, so both sides of the bath are accessible to all guests in turns.
