Classification

Bicarbonate spring

A blended source classified as a simple sulfur spring. The water is almost colorless and clear, carrying the characteristic faint rotten-egg note of hydrogen sulfide. At pH 9.1 it is firmly alkaline, sitting near the top of the slippery 'beauty-water' range that leaves skin feeling smooth. It also runs notably high in metasilicic acid at 52.8 mg/kg, which adds a thin silica film for a softer after-feel.

265. Sumatakyo Onsen Open-air Bath Bijinzukuri no Yu Public onsen for 400. The operating schedule varies heavily by season — from one to several days a week, check before visiting. Included in the Yuragi tegata (currently 1 of 3 remaining on the pass). Online photo matches. Inside there's a rotenburo with a large fence that blocks everything, but it's cozy to be in the onsen. Clear water with a soapy effect. Temperature 40. Very slippery in the bath. Recommended to visit if you're in the settlement.
