About

Ebisu no Yu is a small day-use bathhouse at the foot of Mount Juunigatake (十二ヶ岳), in the Nyukawa hills outside Takayama. A local residents' cooperative runs it out of a plain wood building with one indoor bath and an outdoor rotenburo. The indoor bath runs hot, while the outdoor side keeps a warmed pool alongside a separate one straight from the spring, unheated and cold, so bathers go back and forth between the two. The water is carbonated, unusual enough that visitors comment on it, and some notice it has left the floor tiles slightly bumpy in spots. It's a plain village bath rather than a resort, but locals rate it highly enough that the small parking lot reportedly fills up even on weekday afternoons.
