Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

A blended spring drawing from two wells — Hamayu and Taki-no-Yu — mixed in the hotel's basement pit before reaching the baths. Classified as an alkaline simple thermal spring (pH 8.6 at the wellhead), it sits squarely in the Japanese 'beauty-water' family — soft, slippery, and gentle on the skin. A faint hydrogen sulfide note and a whisper of sulfur on the tongue come through behind a chloride-led, lightly mineralized base. A hypotonic low-temperature source (33 °C) that is reheated for bathing.

About

The baths here run on the hotel's own spring, which flows at a steady rate and feeds the communal indoor bath, the garden rotenburo (open-air bath), and most of the private in-room baths. The garden rotenburo is a Japanese-style open space with the sea laid out in front of it and, further back, the Kumano mountains and Nachi Falls on the horizon. At night the fishing lights on the water add to the mood. The water is softly alkaline and leaves the skin smooth. Day-use bathing is not available.

652. Kamenoi Hotel Nachi Katsuura Kumano Kodo, Nachikatsuura, Wakayama ★ Stayed overnight. No day use. Originally on the Wakayama 12 onsen list, but even after being removed, the staff found the Wakayama 12 stamp and sold it (they had a huge stack of stamps in a cabinet). Bath photos from the internet match. For food, I got a double kaiseki for one — it was standard. Tatami room with a bay view. There's a utility balcony, but the bay view from it is great. Onsen water is stated for the in-room bath. 1. Outdoor zone. The view is supposed to be of the bay, but you actually can't see it from the bath. However, the internal landscaping is very pleasant and effectively creates the scenery — trees, plants, lanterns. Cozy both in the evening and daytime, with a pleasant breeze from the bay. 1.1. Main stone bath. Clear water, temperature 41. 1.2. Small bath. Clear water, temperature 32. 2. Large spacious indoor zone. Bath with clear water, temperature 40. Breathing inside is good, even cool. Overall a solid place, but doesn't particularly grab you. Worth keeping in mind if the price is right on a certain date. 04.11.2025 05.11.2025
