Tucked into the Iya (祖谷) valley in Tokushima, this hotel takes its name from the area's reputation as a hikyo (秘境), a genuinely out-of-the-way corner of Shikoku. The indoor bath has full glass walls facing the old-growth valley forest, with jet, bubble, and reclining tubs built in. The outdoor bath sits open to the same valley scenery in every season. The water is noticeably smooth on the skin. A salt sauna and an herbal yomogi (mugwort) bath add a couple of extra soaking options.
