Moegi no Yu Onsen

A short walk from Okutama Station, this is a small day-use bathhouse with an indoor bath and an open-air bath that looks out over the Tama River and the surrounding mountains. The water rises from deep underground, reportedly through one of the region's oldest rock layers, and comes out colorless with a smooth, almost silky feel on the skin. The bathhouse runs two separate bath halls that swap between men and women each month, so which side you get depends on when you visit. There's a small restaurant on site and a rest corner with massage chairs. The place is compact, and it fills up with hikers coming off the trails around Okutama, so early or late in the day tends to be quieter.
