A sodium chloride spring with sulfate adding quiet body, drawn from one of Japan's hottest natural sources at 92.9 °C. Weakly alkaline and soft on the skin, it sits in the moderately mineralized range with noticeable body. A generous 197.5 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

About

Atagawa Prince Hotel sits on a hilltop above Atagawa Onsen, and its rooftop open-air bath, Kunpu (薫風), looks straight out over the sea and sky, open enough that it feels like floating. Two large indoor bathhouses, Umiiro (海色, "sea color") with seven tubs and Sorairo (空色, "sky color") with five, each have their own sauna and swap between the men's and women's sides through the day. Two smaller baths can be booked for a private soak: a hinoki-wood one called Tsukiakari (月明り, "moonlight") and a ceramic one called Hoshiakari (星明り, "starlight"). The spring is the hotel's own, clear and faintly salty, and guests often mention how soft it leaves the skin. The hotel has stood on this rise above town since 1959, and the height is still the point: the rooftop bath catches the sunrise and a view toward the Izu islands, with the steam of Atagawa's hot-spring streets rising below.

205. Atagawa Prince Hotel, Izu Visited for day-use bathing, listed hours 15:00 to 20:00. Price 1300/1800 depending on season. There are private baths (didn't take them, didn't ask about availability without staying). They stamp the Shizuoka 60 Onsen book. 1. On the 5th floor, an outdoor bath with almost infinity bay view, but the railing bars spoil the picture. Clear water, temperature 40, only ladles to wash with. Also on this floor there's a foot bath with a bay view. 2. On the 2nd floor, a set of baths (photos from the official website and internet, they match). Water is clear in all baths. Breathing inside is fine. 2.1. Rectangular bath with two utaseyu streams, water temperature 40. 2.2. Rectangular wooden bath, temperature 42. 2.3. First bath by the stone, temperature 41. 2.4. Second bath by the stone, temperature 41, with a square grid containing a white bundle inside (probably herbs). 2.5. Sauna. 2.6. Cold bath. 2.7. Outdoor stone bath without a view, temperature 41. 2.8. Outdoor rectangular bath with a bay view, with three concrete blocks inside for sitting. Temperature 40. Quite bath-rich for a single facility. Plus two different scenic baths with bay views. If you're nearby, recommended for a day-use visit.
