431. Jigoku Onsen Seifusou, Aso, Kumamoto Onsen for 2000 yen. Operating hours listed as 10:00 to 17:00 (last entry at 15:00). They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen book. 1. Designated mixed bathing zone. Mandatory clothing provided (men get shorts). But the shorts are terribly uncomfortable (better to bring your own). Bath photos are from the internet, they're accurate. 1.1. Indoor men's bath, milky water with a sulfur smell. Temperature 45. The air is comfortable. 1.2. Outdoor zone. 1.2.1. Bath with milky water smelling of sulfur, temperature 45. 1.2.2. Bath with milky water smelling of sulfur, carbonated, temperature 40. 1.2.3. Cold oval bath in pebbles. 2. Separate men's zone. Indoor bath with large open windows, water is clear-to-milky white, temperature 43. The air is excellent. On paper I expected the place to be more interesting and cool, but it didn't click. The shorts were absolutely terrible for bathing — they should just give simple disposable ones instead.
