Takayama Ouan is a hotel a short walk from JR Takayama Station. The baths are on the 13th floor: an indoor bath, an open-air bath with natural onsen water, a sauna, and three private baths, each with its own character, usable without a booking when one is free. By day the open-air bath looks out toward the Northern Alps; at night it looks over the city lights and the stars. Tatami runs through the whole building, corridors included, so guests go without slippers, and the low-bed rooms keep a quiet, traditional feel inside an otherwise modern city hotel.
