Wakamatsuya Murai Rokusuke sits in the heart of Hijiori Onsen (肘折温泉, Hijiori Onsen) and draws on two water sources: its own spring (the inn has held it for roughly 60 years) mixed with the local association's springs. The water flows free without recirculation. The large baths are separated by gender, and there is a private bath called Sachi-no-yu (幸の湯), named by Prince Takamatsu on a visit. The inn's own spring runs slightly cooler and is lightly carbonated, noticeably different from the main baths. The place suits long-stay toji (湯治, healing-bath) guests, with self-catering facilities on site. Every morning a market sets up right at the front entrance, where local vendors sell vegetables, rice cakes, and hand-made snacks.
