A sodium-led bicarbonate–chloride spring — the classic 'jūsō-sen' style with a salt-tinged finish from a chloride sub-type. At the wellhead it carries a faint rotten-egg note of H₂S and reads salty on the tongue. Hot (64.7 °C) and neutral, with 5.7 g/kg of dissolved solids — soft on the skin but holds warmth well.

A large resort hotel in Shirahama with a swimwear-required mixed outdoor bath called Raku no Yu (楽の湯), a sodium-chloride natural spring pool open to the sky, with views over the pool and out toward the sea. It sits a bit off the main bathing circuit and can feel like a discovery when the outdoor pool is running and guests drift between the two. The rest of the facilities follow the Oedo Onsen Monogatari group's well-practiced resort playbook.

623. Oedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Shirahama Saichoraku, Wakayama ★★ Higaeri for 900/1200/1400 (depending on the day). Higaeri stated as 7:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00 (last entry 22:00). They have higaeri food and onsen. M/F bath rotation available - I was in the Morning bath (Asa-no-Yu). Part of the Shirahama tegata (2 stickers). Bath photos from the internet roughly match - I visited in the evening. Outdoor stone-walled bath. Very cozy and atmospheric in the evening. Clear water, 41 degrees. Indoor bath with a stone centerpiece. Clear water, 41.5 degrees. Breathable inside. Sauna and cold bath available. A fairly typical large Oedo with the usual drawbacks, but the outdoor bath in the evening is excellent. Recommended for higaeri visits. 16.06.2025
