Cervin Shirakumokan splits its bath into men's and women's sides, each with an indoor tub and a small outdoor one fed by kakenagashi sulfur spring water. The water shifts from milky white to nearly clear from one day to the next, and it's kept lukewarm rather than hot, so people tend to stay in a while. The outdoor bath faces the Northern Alps, and after rain the clouds can settle in the valley below, though it closes for winter, when snow can slide off the roof. The indoor bath can be booked for a private soak when it isn't busy. The lodge sits at 1,600 meters in the Yamada Bokujo (山田牧場) highlands, a small family-run inn that changed hands in 2017 and has since leaned into hosting hobby groups, from board games and tabletop RPGs to LARP and mini 4WD racing, alongside the usual mountain view rooms.
