Kamakura Onsen is a lone inn sitting in a cedar-lined valley on the lower slopes of Mt. Zao in Miyagi. The building dates to the Taisho era and the place has the feel of a mountain hideaway that has barely changed. The indoor bath (men's and women's separate) draws a cold mineral spring that is heated on-site by firewood. There is no outdoor bath, but the bathhouse windows let in good light and a view of the surrounding forest. Day-use bathing and simple overnight stays with meals are both available.
