An alkaline simple thermal spring (Komaki Onsen). At pH 9.1 it sits firmly in the alkaline, beauty-water family, giving a slippery, smoothing feel on the skin. Although lightly mineralized overall, it carries a generous load of metasilicic acid (about 182 mg/kg), the kind of silica that leaves skin feeling noticeably smoother after a soak.

Hoshino Resort Aomoriya Motoyu 星野リゾート青森屋 元湯 An old-timer sento near Misawa Station. You can pay separately, or it's included with the ryokan from the review above. 10 minutes on foot from the hotel. One indoor hot bath, feels like 41.5-42 degrees. Pretty stuffy inside. They have milk and a small area to hang out after bathing. Worth stopping by once.
