Fukayama No Yu

This day-use bath sits inside the Michi-no-eki Otari roadside station, in a mountain valley in northern Nagano. The water blends two local springs and comes out with a faint brown tint and a light metallic edge, locally said to be good for the skin. Indoors there's a hot bath with a lie-down section, a cooler bath meant for kids or a slower soak, a cold plunge, and a dry sauna; outside, an open-air bath lets you watch snow fall in winter or catch the color of the maples in autumn. A restaurant next door serves local Otari food, and there's a tatami hall and courtyard to rest in after the bath.
