Tanoyu Onsen

A traditional hot spring near the station. The bathhouse is said to have been established in the Edo period and has been called Ueno Tanoyu, Kawanoyu, and Nodano-yu, cherished by the villagers. At that time, the area around the hot spring was mostly rice fields, and many people came from quite far away along the ridges between the fields to heal their daily fatigue, so it was also called "Azenashi no Yu" (the bath without ridges). Later, it came to be called Tanoyu Onsen. A poem about it says, "Long ago, Tanoyu was said to be located in the rice fields (omitted) The modest Tanoyu area is familiar and the atmosphere of the hot spring lingers here," reflecting the simplicity of Tanoyu Onsen.
