About

Hotel Shirakabaso is a large seasonal hotel that stands right across from Kappabashi Bridge in Kamikochi. Its single communal bath, Komorebi no Yu (木漏れ日の湯) on the ground floor, is a plain wood-lined room with wooden tubs and stools, fed by natural water from the Japan Alps rather than hot spring water, and there's no sauna. Kamikochi bars private cars, so guests arrive by shuttle bus or taxi, and the hotel closes every winter, reopening once the valley's snow season ends. Rooms and terraces look straight out at the Hotaka peaks across the river, and the ground-floor café stays open to hikers just passing through, not only overnight guests.
