Meiken Onsen sits at the far end of the Kurobe Gorge Railway, accessible only by train to Keyakidaira (欅平) and a roughly 20-minute walk from the station. The open-air baths and indoor rock bath both run the sulfur water fresh through without recirculation (kakenagashi), and the spring has a light sulfur scent that reviewers describe as pleasantly mild. The rotenburo faces the gorge, though the actual view of the river opens up from outside the tub rather than from within. Overnight guests can also reserve a private outdoor bath. The inn is a member of Nihon Hitou wo Mamorukai (日本秘湯を守る会), the association of remote traditional springs, and operates only from late May to mid-November.
