Osawa Onsen Well No. 5 is a simple thermal spring in Matsuzaki, Shizuoka. Weakly alkaline (pH 8.1), it is soft on the skin and sits near the gentle 'beauty-water' family. With light mineralization of just 0.787 g/kg of dissolved solids, it is a mild, low-stimulus water. Because the source runs cool, the bath is reheated in winter.

About

Osawa Onsen Yoda no Sho is a small day-use bathhouse with two separate bathing areas: Shoya no Yu (庄屋の湯), with two indoor baths, and Tachibana no Yu (橘の湯), with one indoor bath and one open-air bath. Men's and women's sides swap between the two each Sunday. The water is soft and leaves the skin feeling smooth, the quality that once earned it the nicknames Kesho no Yu (化粧の湯) and Bijin no Yu (美人の湯), the "make-up bath" and the "beauty bath." The spring goes back to the Edo period's Meiwa years, sometime between 1764 and 1772, when steam was seen rising along the Naka River at Osawa and villagers, with the local headman's permission, built a stone-lined bathing pool right on the bank. The current building, a former hotel now used only for day bathing, stands next to the old Yoda residence (旧依田邸), a preserved Shizuoka heritage house, and its old guest rooms have been turned into a rest area with a TV and board games.

246. 大沢温泉 依田之庄, Matsuzaki Public onsen in the countryside for 700, listed hours 10:00–20:00 (except Wed and Thu). They stamp the 60 Onsen of Shizuoka 24/25 booklet. The baths reportedly rotate every Sunday between two setups: two indoor baths, or an indoor bath + rotenburo. During my visit it was the first setup with two indoor baths. Online photos match. Inside there are two rectangular baths with clear water, temperature 40. I couldn't notice any difference in water between the baths. Spacious room with high ceiling, easy to breathe. There's an exit to the backyard where you can stand, breathe fresh air, and observe the spiders that have actively settled under the roof. If for some reason you're nearby, it's worth stopping by — a pleasant place.
