89. Wakakusa Onsen, Beppu True grandpa onsen. No staff, shower, or soap/shampoo. 100 yen into a box, stamp for passport is in the box. Inside there's one bath with clear water. Water temperature is scorching hot. An old man leaving offered to turn on the cold water tap for me — I declined and received a look of respect in return. Breathing inside is tolerable. Highly recommended for old-school fans and lovers of hot water.
