Sakamoto Hot Spring

A wild coastal onsen on a remote island in Mishima Village, Kagoshima, where simple salt spring water bubbles up from below sea level, accessible only in the hour or so around low tide. Basic and unmanaged, with a nearly one-hour walk from the port; when conditions align, the warm water mixing with the sea has a charm all its own.
