Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

A sodium chloride spring (legacy name 'junshokuen-sen') rising in the Kannawa district of Beppu. The water is salty, heat-retaining, and weakly acidic, with a slightly salty taste. The source emerges at a scalding 96 °C, placing it among Japan's hottest natural sources. It also carries a generous 193 mg/kg of metasilicic acid, leaving the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother.

470. Onsenkaku, Beppu ★ Visited for higaeri at 500. Higaeri available from 10:00 to 15:00. They stamp the Beppu Onsen-do book. Small outdoor stone bath. No view, but very cozy. Clear slightly cloudy water with sparse fine mineral deposits. Temperature 41. Pleasant place, recommended for a visit. 03.04.2025
