A sodium chloride spring drawn from Well No. 2 of the Kashitate Mukaizato source in Hachijo Town, and the board itself labels it a strong-salt spring. Near-neutral at pH 6.5, the water runs colorless and clear yet tastes strongly salty on the lips — the brine signature that gives chloride water its heat-retaining reputation, with warmth that lingers well after you climb out.

Fureai-no-Yu Hot Spring Kashitate Mukouzato Onsen Fureai-no-Yu Free with the bus pass (one of three), without it seems to be 300. Shampoo included, standard shower. Water temperature 42 degrees, slightly cloudy, smells of iron. Two baths — a large wooden indoor one and an outdoor stone one, fits about five people comfortably, under a roof behind a fence with a view of the parking lot and trees. Online reviews mention varying temperatures, mine was 42/42. Overall a very solid onsen — there were both elderly locals and young folks who are currently smoking weed in the parking lot! Special mention for the two-day bus pass that includes three onsen, unlimited bus rides to them, all for two days and just 1000 yen.
