A hot sodium-calcium chloride spring rising from the wellhead at 71.7 °C — among Japan's hottest natural sources. Weakly alkaline, with 6.4 g/kg of dissolved solids, it leaves a noticeable mineral film on the skin and stays warm long after the bath. Sulfate adds a quiet body to the chloride backbone, giving the water real substance.
199. Ooedo Hotel Suiyotei, Atami
Stayed overnight, without meals. Looks like a large hotel, five minutes by car from Atami station.
The hotel's main highlight is an outdoor stone bath with an amazing view of the bay. There's a dedicated path to it, partially outdoors. It seems to alternate male/female. The only facility up there is a single shower. Clear water, hot temperature. Behind a small fence there was a shallow bath at a slightly lower level, but it was empty and used as a drain.
Indoor area:
1. Main indoor bath with a bay view. On paper it looked interesting, but in reality the view isn't great and the glass distorts the picture. Clear water, temperature 40.
2. Additional bath next to the main one. Also has a partial view. Clear water, temperature around 41.
3. Round bath with a bubble zone. Clear water, temperature 43.
4. Sauna.
5. Cold water bath.
For me this was an optimal option near the station, with a really great outdoor bath and the ability to book without meals (breakfast and dinner didn't fit my schedule for this slot). Can recommend considering it if looking for accommodation in Atami.
