An alkaline simple thermal spring: hot at the wellhead (47 °C) yet only lightly mineralized at 791 mg/kg dissolved solids. At pH 9.0 it has the slippery, alkaline feel of Japan's beauty-water family, soft on the skin. Metasilicic acid is fairly generous at 111 mg/kg, leaving a thin silica film that smooths the skin. The water runs almost colorless and transparent, carrying a faint rotten-egg note of hydrogen sulfide.

About

Yunokuni Kaikan is a day-use bathhouse in the hills of Izu, drawing on two mineral springs, both a little smooth on the skin, for its indoor and outdoor baths. Outdoor baths for men and women sit close to the Kano River, near enough to hear the water while you soak, and a separate herbal bath steeped with fourteen kinds of herbs is meant to warm you through. Indoors there is a large communal bath, a low-temperature sauna and a steam sauna, and a cold bath drawn from the alkaline spring. It is an unpretentious, well-used local spot rather than a polished resort: a tatami rest hall with free tea and a small restaurant round out the visit.

A higaeri spot. Very interesting alkaline water. The men's rotenburo has a river view. Rotenburo has 2 baths. One inside. Two saunas (hotter and regular) and a cold bath at 25 degrees :( The cold bath is interesting though! It's a reisen — a cold onsen. Photos from Google.

249. Yunokuni Kaikan, Izu ★ Public onsen for ¥1000, hours listed as 10:00 to 21:00 (except Wed). They stamp the Shizuoka 60 onsen stamp rally 24/25. There is a diner (tasty), a shop, and chill-out areas. The bath photos from the internet match. 1. Indoor area, it is fine to breathe inside. 1.1. Rectangular bath with clear water, temperature 40. 1.2. Sauna. 1.3. Small cold bath. 2. Outdoor area. 2.1. Herbal bath with clear green water. Water temperature 38. There is a pleasant view of the river, though it is rather narrow. 2.2. Second outdoor bath. The water is clear, temperature 39-40. A pleasant place. If you are nearby, it is worth stopping in.
