About

Oedo Onsen Monogatari Beppu Seifu is a large, no-frills hotel in the middle of Beppu Onsen, one of Japan's biggest hot-spring towns. The open-air bath looks straight out over the bay, and the hotel describes Beppu's water as a warming one, good for driving out a chill. There's also a spacious indoor bath, a free kids' corner, and a lobby for lounging around. Tattoos are allowed in the shared bath if fully covered with the hotel's own cover seals, and day bathing is only offered bundled with a dinner buffet, not sold on its own.

158. Oedoonsen Monogatari Beppuseifu, Beppu Stayed overnight. The hotel is in the hotel zone by the bay on the Beppu waterfront (with direct access to it). Didn't go for dinner since I was rushing stamps. A large hotel with three sections - if you end up in the far one, it's quite a walk to the reception. Lots of people, but tolerable overall. There are two baths - indoor and outdoor. No onsen-do stamps. Indoor bath on the third floor. Water is clear, temperature between warm and hot. Breathing is good. Late at night in the dim light, it was cozy. Outdoor bath has a view. Water is the same temperature as indoor - between warm and hot, clear. View of the bay water, but through low transparent glass, which somewhat spoils it. Overall it's fine, but given the competition in Beppu among hotels with scenic bay-view baths - I wouldn't choose this one.
