A neutral, hypotonic simple thermal spring, sampled at the outlet of the storage tank where the city-owned Unsenji wellhead and other Beppu municipal sources are already blended before the water reaches the baths. Dissolved solids are light at 764 mg/kg, so the water is gentle on the body rather than assertive. What sets it apart is silica: 159 mg/kg of metasilicic acid, enough to leave the thin moisturizing film that places it in Japan's beauty-water family.
