Calcium-Hydrogen Sulfate spring

The source feeding Hoyoland's famous mud baths in Beppu's Kannawa quarter — an acidic spring at pH 2.9, with sulfate making up roughly 90% of the anion balance and notable iron(II) and aluminum on the cation side. The water reads milky-white with a faint cloud, carries a clear iron tang on the tongue, and breathes a soft hydrogen sulfide note — unmistakably Beppu in character. With 91.3 mg/kg of metasilicic acid layered in, it leaves a perceptibly smoother finish on the skin.

About

This is a mineral mud hot spring that wells up from underground. The mineral mud, produced only under the three major conditions of moderate steam, corrosive clay layers, and mineral water, is a rare and precious hot spring directly connected to the hells. This mud, which has risen after a long time from the center of the earth, is so fine that it becomes a mist-like powder when dried. It has a heavier specific gravity and greater buoyancy than ordinary hot springs, so you can enjoy a mysterious floating sensation when soaking.

153. Beppu Onsen Hoyoland Large mud onsen in Beppu. The bath size and mud water make it unique. Admission 1500. They give stamps. The smell on the body after visiting lingers quite noticeably. Facilities inside: 1. Indoor bath with milky water. Temperature hot, comfortable to breathe. 2. Indoor mud bath. Water temperature slightly below hot, air is good. Standing shower available for rinsing off the mud. 3. Main outdoor mud bath. Mixed bathing, but the men's and women's zones are separated by wooden railings. Water temperature slightly below hot. 4. Additional outdoor mud bath. Also mixed bathing with the same layout as the main one. Water temperature slightly below hot. Smaller than the main one. Key feature — a very thick and uneven mud layer on the bottom, slightly slippery. 5. Sauna. 6. Small cold bath near the sauna. 7. Empty outdoor bath without water (I think this used to be a non-mud outdoor bath). Due to its uniqueness, this is essentially a must-visit.
