Stayed overnight, but according to the website there's higaeri from 10:30 to 14:00 for 1200 yen. They give a small towel for free, large one for rent at 350 yen. You can also buy a small one. There's a ninja museum nearby, so the decor here is partly ninja-themed. Nice inner garden; kaiseki was served in a large hall, one dish after another, beautifully presented with detailed explanations of what and how to eat. The photo shows breakfast. Japanese staff, didn't understand English but were very friendly and eager to help. Nearby there's the Akame 48 Waterfalls hike and a salamander museum - a very scenic and secluded spot. From the room window I sat watching deer graze on a neighboring hillside. During the entire stay I only crossed paths with one other pair of guests, even though the ryokan is fairly large. Due to the lack of visitors, they let me into the onsen with tattoos, even though the website strictly prohibits them. There are two alkaline baths; a small outdoor one reached by stairs through the courtyard, clear water, didn't measure the temperature but it wasn't hot. I liked the indoor one more - it's more spacious with great panoramic windows and access to a terrace with lounge chairs. Inconvenient to get to, but pairs well with the trail. A very secluded and beautiful place. 18.09.2025
