About

Goenyuin sits at the Daisen (大山) trailhead at about 750 meters, so hikers often stop here after coming off the mountain. There are two baths: the outdoor rotenburo looks out over forest, and the indoor bath called Kami-no-yu (神の湯) is dim and cave-like with flickering candlelight. The water runs clear and light on the skin. The place also uses the same spring water to make tofu and soy milk, and bathers get a free cup of soy milk after their soak.

Went to Daisen Hinokami Goen Yuin, located on the descent from the mountain trailhead. Clear water, about 41-42 degrees. Not sure of the source. 790 yen and after a hike it's wonderful. Spacious shower area, two outdoor baths (one was drained) with a view of the forest and a bit of the mountain, plus chairs for enjoying the cold air and scenery, and one indoor bath. Very welcoming hospitality, everyone was happy to see me. There's an affordable restaurant (tasty food). You can get to the door by bus without a car — there are many buses. https://maps.app.goo.gl/FrzoBvUmY4PYSVxy9
