Ume-yu is a small neighborhood sento in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, with a short line-up of tubs (deep, shallow jet, cold, electric, and a medicated bath) plus one dry sauna. There's no rotenburo and no pool, just an old-school bathhouse. The building keeps its Showa-era retro look, and Yutonami-sha (ゆとなみ社), the group behind several revived Kyoto sento, took it over in 2015 as their first shop. It draws a mix of regulars and visitors, tattoos included, and people often pick up a bottled soda from the retro drinks case on the way out.
