About

Jinya has been running since 1918 on a sprawling 10,000-tsubo (十,000坪) estate in Tsurumaki Onsen (鶴巻温泉, Tsurumaki Onsen), Kanagawa. Every one of the 16 guest rooms has its own kakenagashi (掛け流し, free-flowing) open-air bath fed directly from the spring. There are also shared indoor and outdoor baths, two bookable private rotenburo (露天風呂) called Yamazakura (山桜) and Yamafuji (山藤), and a sauna that opened in autumn 2025. The grounds are well known for a long-standing connection to professional shogi (将棋) tournaments and for a large old tree that guests call the Totoro Tree, after Hayao Miyazaki, who spent part of his childhood here.
