Tani-no-yu SpringSodium Chloride spring
Tani-no-yu source in Beppu's Kitanaka district, a sodium chloride spring emerging hot at 71.1 °C and weakly acidic at pH 4.9 — the wellhead carries a faint sour taste. Heat-retaining salt water, moderately mineralized (3,306 mg/kg dissolved), with an unusually generous 357.6 mg/kg of metasilicic acid that leaves the kind of silica film associated with Japan's beauty-water family. Listed under the legacy name shokuen-sen (common-salt spring).
